Christmas Display (December 2014)

Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year. This display gave a very cozy feel during Christmas time. I drew thick black lines on red construction paper and cutout stockings to hang from the fireplace. I also cut out orange and yellow flames and used brown strips of paper for the firewood. Who doesn't love Christmastime!

National Novel Writing Month: NANOWRIMO (November 2014)

Making this display was the first time I'd heard of National Novel Writing Month. It encourages patrons to attempt to write a short novel during the month of November. I tried to go with a fall theme and added leaves and other fall decorations such as pumpkins to my display.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October 2014)

Breast Cancer Awareness month is very well-known. For this display I made pink bead bracelets. These were a big hit and they ran out pretty quickly. I also made brochures with information on Breast cancer awareness. This is one of my favorite displays.

Hispanic Heritage Month (September 2014)

Hispanic Heritage month is celebrated September 15-October 15. While this is an odd month because its half September and October I displayed this throughout the entire month of September. I simply posted different Hispanic flags onto a poster board. I also displayed different notable Hispanic individuals and a short bio of each one. On the second shelf I displayed some Hispanic books and bookmarks.

National Immunization Awareness Month (August 2014)

August seems to be the most difficult month for a display. I settled on Immunization Awareness month which coincides with Back-to-School immunization. I used a green poster board and added cream colored strips of paper around the border to create a chalk board look. I pasted a picture of a teacher pointing to the different vaccines needed for back to school time.  I also printed required vaccine charts/handouts for school aged children. On the second shelf I cutout college students and their required vaccines to enter college and also displayed some periodicals.

UV Safety Month (July 2014)

July was another difficult month for a display. I chose UV safety month. I found the idea for the poster online and added my own touch. I added sunglasses which were handmade by a friend. Also a sun hat, water bottle, sunscreen and sand pale to hold the brochures I created on UV safety. It also expands onto two shelves to showcase more books.

National Safety Month (June 2014)

This was a fun display. I cutout different safety officers and posted safety precaution handouts for each individual. It includes Fire Safety, Road Safety, and First Aid/CPR. I got rave reviews on my cutouts which I simply printed on card stock paper and cut out. It expands onto three shelves.

National Stroke & Hypertension Awareness Month (May 2014)

May is a complicated month for a display. I combined  stroke & hypertension awareness month into one display. I cut and paste pictures and information on stroke and high blood pressure onto three posters. I also ordered free stroke awareness magnets and brochures. This display expands onto two shelves to display books and other printed materials.

National Poetry Month (April 2014)

This display is made using two white poster boards which I drew and colored a tree onto. I used green paper for the leaves which have different poets and a short verse from one of their poems. I also pasted a few insects and Shakespeare's Sonnet 18 poem to go along with the Spring theme. It expands onto two shelves which displays Poetry books and magazines.

National Nutrition Month (March 2014)

This display was slightly complicated. I used two poster boards to create a 3-D food pyramid. Coloring, cutting, and pasting onto the pyramid was fairly simple. The construction on the other hand was slightly taxing but it turned out pretty good. It also expands onto two shelves in order to showcase some Nutrition magazines.

Black History Month 2014: Civil Rights in American (50th Anniversary of the Civil Rights Act)

Here is my very first Library Display (02/2014). It expands onto two shelves. The last photo is a close-up view. I found this idea online and tweaked it a bit. Simple black and white cut-outs and a short bio of each individual. It got rave reviews from visitors!
